Should people and the media coverages stop releasing names of people who are accused of something until a thorough investigation is done and there is enough evidence to convict someone guilty of a crime? In my opinion, I think that stuff like this need to be changed from now on because the number of false reports and allegations are going up nowadays ever since the current politicians took office. Releasing people's names and photo right away to the public is always going to be under assumption and definitely destroys character reputation, which isn't fair to the innocent people out there. I think it's also very stupid to continue doing this. If you were accused of a wrongdoing one day, would you like people to not release your name and photo the public until there's enough evidence to prove you guilty? |

A fair arguement but in some high profile cases, releasing accusations to the public can encourage other victims to come forward. Examples include Rolf Harris and Jimmy Saville. Of course you're nearly always going to get false accusations from this as well. But those people get found out at court level or even after one police interview. As was the case with William Roach. So it's better to encourage legit victims to come forward even if that means there are false accusations as well because 99% of the time the truth comes out in the end anyway. |

I can't believe people are still defending this... you don't know if other victims are telling the truth or not either. People could just come out and make up stories about you too. |

That's what police interviews and courts are for. |

If other people wanted to press charges, they would've done so a long time ago. They wouldn't wait until the person's name pops up in public. Edited by SSJSC, Oct 25 2014, 07:21 PM.

That's not true at all. Especially with sexual abuse and rape cases. The Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris cases prove that. |

I thought your goal isn't to try to get everyone in trouble and end up wasting so much money for trials, unless it harmed or affected their lives pretty bad. And second, the media usually judges too quickly and it ruins lives afterwards even if you're proven innocent in the end. More people in this world prefer suspects' names kept secret until they can be proven guilty. Edited by SSJSC, Oct 25 2014, 07:57 PM.

It can ruin lives yes. When accusations were made against Freddy Starr, he looked in a heck of a state afterwards. However I would rather one person's bravery encourages others to support them in bringing down some disgusting human beings, even if that means some people are going to lie about what happened and innocent people get hurt. The alternative is that not enough evidence is brought forward to convict offenders. Let me tell you that really sucks when that happens. You know they are guilty but can't prove it. Especially when there are others who can give evidence but are either too afraid or don't realise there's a trial. |

So you want your name revealed to the public when you're accused one day? Lol... You have no one to blame, but yourself when your reputation is defamed one day, cause you're supporting the current legal system in this post. Not everyone who is accused or did something wrong are that disgusting. Maybe the good people don't realize they made stupid mistakes and perhaps deserve a second chance at a clean criminal record. If I'm proved innocent then who cares? Bill Roache's accusers were made to look like fools in court and he came out of it looking the better person. |

You can be falsely accused over again in your lifetime. And then keep revealing your name to the public again in future allegations, that's just stupid. It makes the person and the legal system both look bad. |

An innocent man has been publicly accused of something he did not do. He has been publicly subjected to enormous stress and unjustified bad publicity. Mud will remain attached to him for the rest of his life whilst the accusers have rightly been and will continue to be protected from publicity. Surely fairness demands that in such circumstances an accused is entitled to the same privacy unless and until he/she is convicted. |

Never denied that. I just think that's better than the opposite thing happening where the guilty walk free due to lack of witness testimonies. |

If something happened to you, you report it right away. What is this? The baby world? Do people need others to tell them when to make a report if they're victims of something? |

You're being ignorant if you believe every crime gets reported. Domestic violence and sexual assaults in particular often go unpunished. They can often be very hard to get evidence for in court as well. Hence why it's better if more victims come forward. More statements = more evidence = better conviction rate. |
